What is “Hana” ?

About the name of Kodiak Hana Restaurant, You may have wondered what is the meaning of Hana”. Hana refers to “flower” in Japanese.
Because of our love for flowers, we chose the Forget-Me-Not — Alaska’s state flower — as the symbol of our restaurant.

Many locals still remember us as “The Old Powerhouse Restaurant”, our former name. Our building was originally home to an electric company’s generator plant, giving Kodiak Hana its unique character and history.

Kodiak Hana Restaurant was founded by Tomsan and his family, who first visited Kodiak, fell in love with the island, and decided to make it their home.

Today, we are proud to serve a unique blend of Japanese cuisine, fresh seafood, and perfectly prepared steaks in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Whether you are a longtime local or visiting Kodiak for the first time, we hope every meal at Kodiak Hana becomes a memorable experience.
